SURGICAL TREATMENT AND TOOLS
Our surgeons utilize state of the art surgical tools and techniques. Intraoperative brain mapping, and if necessary awake craniotomy, are utilized when tumors are adjacent to critical structures. Intraoperative computer-assisted surgery with navigation is routinely used. Computer-guided brain tumor biopsies are employed when indicated.
The surgical treatment for brain tumor not only involves the operating room itself but also the integrated medical system. Highly skilled and experienced ancillary services are present including an intensive care unit that is ranked among the top 5% in the nation.
Many brain tumors need surgical resection. However, some tumors just need observation and clinical follow-up. Many tumors are only treated with highly specialized radiation therapy called radiosurgery.
